As part of the science week program at the Ely St Mary CofE Junior school the Ely Makers Pi Wars team were invited to demonstrate our robot. We did four presentations for each of the year three classes and the children were very excited to hear about the robot and test drive it.

We asked the children if they could explain how the robot could turn despite there not being a steering wheel. The children came up with lots of different ideas what it was that made the robot turn. We then demonstrated how the right-side wheels turned in one direction and the left-side wheels turned in the other when the robot turned.

The children also got to see some circuit boards that had been found in an old desktop computer. In fact, they got so excited about passing the motherboard and hard drive around so that for a moment they couldn’t really follow the talk. The children thought the circuit boards looked like a mini city.
